A local point of RU top-level domain root server has been arranged in Novosibirsk

A local point of RU national top-level domain root server has been arranged in Novosibirsk Internet Exchange (NSK-IX) network. Novosibirsk became the first city of the Russian regions where the RIPN program, aimed at developing the network of Secondary DNS-servers points of the RU top-level domain, has started. Before that such points had been launched in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and Moscow.

The main reason of creating such points is the increase of reliability and availability of DNS-servers in Russian regions and abroad, as well as the increase of DNS-servers' fault-tolerance. The RU top-level domain root DNS-server point, located at Novosibirsk, is under the management of Technical Center of RU national top-level domain (RIPN).

Now any network - participant of NSK-IX - is able to establish peering with the network, where the Novosibirsk point of Russian national top-level domain is located, and thus to materially increase the availability of the RU top-level domain root server. Users of the route-server (RS) have automatically received direct access to the RU top-level domain network without establishing direct peering. The service is provided within the agreement of connection to NSK-IX.

In the process of developing new points of Secondary DNS-servers of the RU top-level domain the IP-anycast technology is used. According to the development plan, in future RU top-level domain DNS-servers' mirrors will be arranged in big cities (with the population over 1 million people) of all seven Russian federal districts, as well as in the countries of Europe, Asia and America.
